- How big is Lake El Salto and how far is it from Mazatlan?
Lake El Salto is a scenic impoundment located on foot hill of Sierra Madre Mountains, 550 feet above sea level. The lake is 90 minutes northeast of Mazatlan, Mexico. The Lake was built on the Elota River and spans approximately 27,000 acres during the rainey season. Averages temperature is 82°F. Lake El Salto was loaded with largemouth Florida bass, but because Of the warm temperature of the water, it turned in to a very big and agressive bass.
- What kind of boats are used?
16 ft Ranger fiberglass and 16 ft aluminum Tracker with 40 and 60 h.p. engines.
- Do you use trolling motors?
Yes, we do have electric trolling motors and an extra battery if needed.
- What kind of food is provided by El Salto Lodge?
You are served a great variety of meals, including: steaks, salt water fish (snapper, snook, corvina, etc), chicken, salads, etc. If you require a special daily diet, our cooks will be glad to prepare it for you.
- What time of the year is the best for bass fishing on Lake El Salto?
The fishing can be excellent all year, depending on conditions, water temperature, moon phases, etc.
- What personal items and fishing gear should I bring with me?
Hat, polarized sun glasses, sun screen, camera with new batteries and extra film, wind breaker or sweat shirt for cool mornings, removable long pants that shorts can fit underneath, shorts, an assortment of dollar bills for tipping, etc., watch, alarm clock, various snacks to enjoy while fishing, bug repellent and rods, reels and tackle box.
- Who can go?
From novices to experts, from kids to adults, our guides will make everyone feel right at home on their fishing adventure.
- Do the fishing guides speak English?
While our fishing guides do not speak fluent english, they do know enough words and phrases to communicate about your fishing needs. They have lived in this area all their lives and are skilled fishermen who do their best to make your Mexico fishing vacation enjoyable.
- Are boats equipped with electronics?
Yes, all our boats are equipped with fish finders and a mobile phone for your safety.
- Is all of the necessary fishing equipment supplied?
Yes, we supply all fishing gear that you will need, including rod and reels and a wide assortment of lures on board. Our equipment is top quality and is very well maintained. Of course, you can also bring your own fishing equipment.
- What is considered appropriate tipping for the guide?
The average tip for guide service is $20 - $30 U.S. dollars.
- How many people can go?
We take up to 2 adult persons per boat.
- Are lunches and beverages included in the package price?
Yes, breakfast or box lunch, lunch and dinner, ice, water, soft drinks, beers and margaritas (special drinks should be bought before getting to the lake).
- Do the boats carry life preservers?
Yes, our boats are equipped with life preservers.
- What can we expect to do on an average fishing charter?
A typical fishing charter will take you where the skipper has found the most consistent fishing action at that particular time. You will usually start at the furthest areas and then on the way back try some different places.
- What forms of payment are accepted?
Credit cards, U.S. or Canadian dollars, Travelers checks or Mexican Pesos at the given daily bank exchange rate.
- Are deposits refundable in case of bad weather?
Yes, deposits are completely refundable if the boats are unable to launch due to rain, high winds or any other natural cause.
- How far in advance do you need us to make reservations?
During the peak fall season of october through march it is wise to book your boat charter dates at least several months in advance, but the rest of the year you will need to book only a month before.
- What is not included in the charter price?
Airfare to Mazatlan, gratuities for guides and staff, fishing tackle and any items of a personal nature.
- Why should I fish with you?
